ATRACTIONS OF THE CUSCO CITY:
Cathedral in Cusco:
The Cathedral of Cusco is located
next to the Plaza de Armas.
The first Cathedral in Cusco was
built Triumph Church in 1539, the
construction was done on the Palace
of Viracocha and now today is part
of this.
The present Cathedral was built
between the years from 1560 to 1664,
were used for construction materials
such as red granite which were
brought from the walls of
Sacsayhuaman.
During construction several were the
architects and various styles used.
The façade is Renaissance and
Baroque interiors Plateresque etc.
Cusco School paintings decorate this
grand building, which were made by
local artists at that time.
Qoricancha:
Sun Temple, one of the most
important sites of the Inca period.
Dedicated to the worship of Sun God,
and major deities of the Incas.
Its construction dates from the year
1438, built by the Inca Pachacutec.
This temple was finely crafted and
it is said that the walls of the
enclosures were completely covered
with layers of Gold
In the 1540s it built the church of
Santo Domingo on the basis of this
important archaeological site. The
union of these different cultures
makes this attractive buy another
cultural historical value.
Sacsayhuaman:
Construction of solid rock from the
Inca period, considered as an
administrative center, military and
the Sun Temple Within its precincts
are still staging the important
festival of Inti Raymi or Festival
of the Sun
Located north of the city of Cusco,
2km away, has an average elevation
of 3700msnm.
The construction of this monument
may drive some 50 years having used
the work of 20 thousand men,
possibly initiated work at the time
of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. With blocks
of rock that reach 9 meters tall and
weighing 350 tons is one of the
biggest attractions available to
Peru.
Main Square:
Main square of Cusco since Inca
times to the present.
Its name in Quechua is still a
controversy, but today is known as
Huacaypata.
Venues old Inca and colonial
churches were later built around
this square, now we can find variety
of businesses for the tourism
industry around this.
