INCA TRAIL 2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT
ITINERARY
Day 1: Cusco / Machu Picchu /Aguas
Calientes.
Early in the morning we will pick
you up from your hotel and take you
to Ollantaytambo train station to
board the train that will take us to
104 km, on the railroad to Machu
Picchu, starting point of the trek.
On the way we will start the visit
in Chachabamba archaeological
complex at 2,150 meters, located
very close to the control cabine
then by an ascending trail of 8 km
take us to the archaeological
complex of Wiñay Wayna at 2,700
meters. This is an impressive
complex made up of an agricultural
center with numerous terraces, a
religious sector and an urban area.
On the way up we will have amazing
view of the Urubamba River Valley,
and the Choquesuysuy archaeological
complex located on the other side of
the river also a beautiful waterfall
located just a few minutes away from
Wiñay Wayna. Then we will climb to
Inti Punku or the Sun Gate, along a
trail of flat stones on the edges of
cliffs in highland jungle. (L, D)
From this fabulous spot we will
contemplate the sacred citadel of
Machu Picchu then we will descend
from Inti Punku to Machu Picchu
continuing following by bus to Aguas
Calientes town.
Accommodation and overnight at the
selected hotel.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes / Machu
Picchu / Cusco.
Early in the morning we will pick
you up from your hotel to aboard a
bus to go up to Machupicchu and
immediately begin a complete guide
tour of the Inca Citadel for 3 hours
approx. Then you will have free time
to walk around, climb the Wayna
Picchu mountain if you want, from
where will have good view and
spectacular experience. Lunch time
in a selected restaurant and by the
afternoon we will meet in Aguas
Calientes town where we will take
the train back to Ollantaytambo
station – Cusco where we will arrive
by night (B)

IMPORTANT ATRACTIONS OF THE INCA
TRAIL:
Chachabamba:
Located at south of the Urubamba
river, at 2,170 meters.
Rediscovered in 1940. By the style
of the building and the stone work
suggest that Chachabamba was a
important religious site and had the
function to guard the entrance to
Machu Picchu.
Wiñay Wayna:
Located at 2,650 meters. Wiñay wayna
are two areas on the mountain. One,
which is in the upper of the
mountain were build from finely cut
and polished granite, give the
impression that was a ceremonial
site unlike the other has the
feature to present terraces and row
of water fountains with chambers
with different sizes.
Wiñay Wayna which means, "Forever
young" is only 5 hours south of
Machu Picchu.
Choquesuysuy:
Place where the gold is wash.
Possibly Choquesuysuy was a
spiritual purification center in the
route to Machu Picchu.
According to Julio Cordova,
Archaeologist of the San Antonio
Abad University, who explain about
the enclosures that having a
circular form saying that were
places where the Andeans staying
overnight waiting the sunrise the
next day. The enclosures are in
position to the sunrise and
different gap or floors, give them
the religious character.
Inti Punku:
Also known as “The Sun Gate”. Lies
at 2700 meters. Consist of two large
stones that correspond to the winter
and summer solstices, and on these
dates are illuminated by laser-like
beams of light. In addition to their
symbolic importance, the gates also
provide remarkable views of Machu
Picchu and Huayna Picchu.
